Industry tech use still exploding, outpacing security, support

As old-fashioned and resistant to change as the U.S. construction industry has always been perceived to be, increasing global market pressures and the emerging influence of a younger management mindset, aka 'millennials', are relentlessly pushing the hardhat set into the 21st century.

The latest study to confirm this driving trend is the 2014 Construction Technology Report, a survey of 1,000 construction professionals prepared for the Associated General Contractors of America by IT research specialist JBKnowledge, Bryan TX, in association with the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) and Texas A&M University’s Construction Science Department. JBKnowledge will release the group's final report in November, but compiled this infographic to preview its findings.

"For the third year in a row, this survey highlighted a growing interest in mobile technologies, but revealed that most companies continue to lack the infrastructure to integrate mobile with desktop strategies," notes JBKnowledge President James Benham. "Survey answers uncovered an awkward mix of personal devices being used without establishing proper data security policies and the continuous lack of technology providers offering mobile capabilities for their construction solutions."
