Texas town aims to save green by going green

Nestled 30 miles north of its tech-savvy state capital, Georgetown TX has uncorked an ambitious plan to use 100% renewable energy by 2017. Stepping out of the progressive shadow of cosmopolitan Austin, the city of 50,000+ would harness wind and solar energy to become the Lone Star State's first renewably fueled municipality. In a state where fossil fuels have famously held court for more than a century, it seems that the tide may at least be stirring, if not yet turning, deep in the heart of Texas. Of major significance, though, the profit motive appears to be driving this decision, not any sudden impulse to hug trees. Hmm, maybe environmentalism and capitalism can coexist, after all.
